Identify It >   Galls >

Galls are abnormal growths produced by plants and trees as a reaction to an invasion from a foreign body, such as an insect laying an egg on a bud or leaf.  The galls provide the larvae, which develop inside, with both food and protection from predators.  There are over 1,500 different plant galls found in the U.K. and the study of them is known as 'cecidology'.  Here are a few which you might encounter.
