Verdigris

Scientific name:  Stropharia aeruginosa

Size:  Up to 12cm tall.  Caps up grow to 5cm across

Distribution:  Found throughout the U.K.

Months seen:  July to November

Habitat:  Heaths, meadows, open woodland, and on damp lawns in gardens

Special features:  The cap of the Verdigris is bell shaped and blue-green in colour - hence the name.  It's slimy to the touch, but the slimy coating is easily washed off in a rain shower which can make identification more tricky.

The stem is very scaly from the ground up to the ring. From the ring up the cap it is smooth, white and slimy.

This fungi is poisonous.
