Scientific name: Asplenium trichomanes
Size: Grows to about 20cm
Distribution: Found throughout the UK. More frequent in the west and north
Flowering months: Doesn't flower, but can be seen all year round
Habitat: Grows from cracks in walls amd rocks
Special features: Maidenhair Spleenwort Ferns may have several fronds growing out of a central rosette. The fronds have pairs of oval, jagged-edged leaflets growing along shiny dark brown stalks. Dark brown spores appear on the back of each leaflet from May to October.
