Cricket Bat Spider

Scientific name:  Mangora acalypha

Size:  Up to 4mm

Distribution:  Found in the south of England and Wales

Months seen:  Mostly seen May to August

Habitat:  Mostly found on gorse, and other shrubs and bushes

Food:  Small invertebrates

Special features:  Cricket Bat Spiders can be recognised by that black cricket bat-shaped marking on the top of the abdomenen.  There is usually some yellow, brown and black striping on the sides on the sides of the abdomen too.
