Scientific name: Dictyna arundinacea
Size: Up to 3.5mm
Distribution: Found throughout the UK
Months seen: Mostly seen March to September
Habitat: Mainly found on low growing vegetation - especially gorse and heather where they make a web which envelops the ends of a branch
Food: Small invertebrates
Special features: Common mesh-weavers are small, brown-black spiders patterned with white hairs. The white hairs give the spider a greyish apearance when young, but they gradually rub off over time.
