Scientific name:  Timandra comae

Size:  Wingspan up to 30mm

Distribution:  Found in most parts of England, Wales and parts of Scotland

Months seen:  May to September

Habitat:  Hedgerows, woodland rides, meadows and gardens

Food:  The caterpillars feed on docks, knotgrass and sorrel

Special features:  Blood-vein Moths have cream coloured wings with thin red line running through all four wings.  The borders of the wings also have a pink blush.

The Blood-vein caterpillars are grey and brown in colour with several oblique lines along the body.

Blood-vein moths are especially fond of damp habitats and are readily attracted to light.
