Four-spotted Chaser Dragonfly

Scientific name:  Libellula quadrimaculata

Size:  Wingspan approximately 70mm

Distribution:  Found throughout the U.K.

Months seen:  May to August

Habitat:  Ponds and lakes.  Prefers more acidic water

Food:  Flying insects

Special features:  The name comes from the four dark patches on the wings.  The Four-spotted Chaser has a narrow tapering brown abdomen with yellow sides.  Although the Broad-bodied Chaser has similar wing patches, it has a much broader abdomen.
